Remembering Holly

We have some very sad news to share. Our much loved Holly has passed away at the grand old age of 27.

Holly passed away peacefully in her field one morning, with her beloved Willie close by. She had enjoyed a good groom the night before and, when the time came, she simply lay down in the field and quietly passed away.

Holly and Willie met through the charity and became completely inseparable. They formed such a strong pair bond that we came to think of Willie as her husband. When they went into foster care, there was never any question that they would go anywhere without each other.

One of the loveliest parts of Holly's final chapter was seeing her grow so close to her foster carers, Jo and Rob.

Holly could be a little aloof at times and sometimes took a while to decide that new people were worthy of her trust and affection. That made it all the more special to see how completely she settled with Jo and Rob and how close to them she became.

They loved her in return, and we couldn't have asked for a better home for Holly and Willie.

Jo and Rob have chosen to keep Willie with them on a long term basis, which is a great comfort to us. He has lost his closest companion, but he remains in the home he shared with Holly, surrounded by familiar people he knows and trusts.

There is never an easy way to lose one of our horses, but Holly had 27 years of life and, in the end, she passed away in perhaps the gentlest way we could have hoped for: peacefully, of old age, in her field, with Willie beside her and surrounded by friends and people who loved her.

Sleep well, Holly. You will be very much missed.
